‘바르도(Bardo)’는 ‘틈새’를 의미하는 불교 용어로, 윤회에서 죽음과 환생 사이의 중간 상태를 뜻한다.
《바르도》는 하나의 존재에서 다른 존재로 이행하는 윤회의 무한한 순환 구조와 끊임없이 숏폼을 밀어내는 시간을 포개 놓으면서, 전시는 빠른 전환의 리듬에 휩쓸려 자신을 잃어버리는 비자발적 명상이 자아를 잊고 더 넓은 세계로 접속하는 불교의 무아지경(無我之境)과 연결될 수 있을지 질문한다. 수직적 구조를 구현하는 다채널 영상 설치와 관람을 위해 조작해야 하는 물리적 컨트롤러는 현실과 비현실 사이를 끝없이 진동하는 숏폼의 경험을 감각 가능한 세계로 소환한다.
이때 숏폼은 개인화된 기기 안의 분화된 세계로부터 벗어나, 같은 차원 안에 공존하는 실재로 다가온다. 숏폼 시청이 시간의 흐름을 지연하는 것처럼 컨트롤러의 휠을 돌려 영상을 넘길수록 더 큰 저항이 발생한다. 물질세계에서 비롯된 데이터가 픽셀화된 부처-인플루언서의 형상으로 환원되는 스산한 경계적 지평 위, 바퀴를 굴리는 수행은 점차 무거워진다. (전시 서문 중에서・글 김재아)

'Bardo' is a Buddhist term meaning 'in-between,' referring to the transitional state between death and rebirth in the cycle of Samsara(the cycle of death and rebirth).
Bardo overlays the infinite cyclical structure of Samsara(the cycle of death and rebirth) — the passage from one being to another — with the relentless stream of short-form content, asking whether the involuntary meditation of losing oneself in the rapid rhythm of endless scrolling might connect to the Buddhist state of selfless absorption(無我之境), where the self dissolves into a wider world. A multi-channel video installation embodying a vertical structure, alongside a physical controller that must be manipulated to view the work, summons the experience of short-form content — perpetually oscillating between the real and unreal — into a tangible, sensory world.
Here, short-form content breaks free from the fragmented worlds within personalized devices, emerging as a reality that coexists within a shared dimension. Just as watching short-form content seems to suspend the passage of time, the more one turns the controller's wheel to advance through the videos, the greater the resistance that builds. Upon an uncanny liminal horizon where data born of the material world is reduced to the form of a pixelated Buddha-influencer, the act of turning the wheel grows ever heavier.

‘Bardo’ es un término budista que significa ‘en medio’, y hace referencia al estado de transición entre la muerte y el renacimiento en el ciclo del Samsara (el ciclo de muerte y renacimiento).
Bardo superpone la infinita estructura cíclica del Samsara — el paso de un ser a otro — con el flujo incesante de contenido de formato corto, preguntando si la meditación involuntaria de perderse en el ritmo vertiginoso del desplazamiento interminable podría conectar con el estado budista de absorción sin ego (無我之境), donde el yo se disuelve en un mundo más amplio. Una instalación de vídeo multicanal que encarna una estructura vertical, junto con un controlador físico que debe manipularse para contemplar la obra, convoca la experiencia del contenido de formato corto — oscilando perpetuamente entre lo real y lo irreal — hacia un mundo tangible y sensorial.
Aquí, el contenido de formato corto se libera de los mundos fragmentados dentro de los dispositivos personalizados, emergiendo como una realidad que coexiste en una dimensión compartida. Así como ver contenido de formato corto parece suspender el paso del tiempo, cuanto más se gira la rueda del controlador para avanzar en los vídeos, mayor es la resistencia que se acumula. En un inquietante horizonte liminal donde los datos nacidos del mundo material quedan reducidos a la forma de un Buda-influencer pixelado, el acto de girar la rueda se vuelve cada vez más pesado.
